It all started with a poncho……

Arrow and Thread founder Alicia Boyer was raised in rural Pennsylvania where she still lives and where her business resides. While studying just outside of Philadelphia, she completed her internship with the Marketing Department of the King of Prussia Mall. Working for the largest mall in the country, she learned about retail trends, innovation and how to build a brand. This experience sparked her interest in fashion and design.

For Alicia, creating apparel is an intimate process. Before deciding on fabric and style, she thinks about how a design will fit and where it will be worn. Once she’s ready to create and cut a pattern, she treats the raw material as a second skin. She has an appreciation for quality fabrics and how they can be transformed into something wearable, “its like you are giving something new life” she says.

Her passion is creating with her hands, turning an idea into something other people want to own. There is nothing more rewarding than meticulously crafting a garment that makes a person feel beautiful.

“An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. Just stay focused and keep aiming.” - Unknown

After years of practice, Alicia has found that quality fabrics and hand draping yield the most elegant results. Even when she started small with infant and toddler designs, she always matched her meticulousness with curiosity.

She has studied various techniques and designs that have helped her cultivate a unique style. Today, she has a few apprentices of her own and spends most of her time creating and teaching in her Williamsport studio. Alicia has expanded her business and now offers sewing classes to both children and adults. Her goal is to teach people how to express themselves artistically and open the mind to new ideas. Finding ways to be more creative will ultimately enrich the soul and grow the imagination.

Her mission is to leave a mark in this world. To teach her children that hard work, faith, gratitude and love are the definition of wealth. Life isn’t about what you have or don’t have, it’s about what you give!
